A smart wheelchair, developed by the Dutch wheelchair manufacturer Life & Mobility and the German IT firm SAP in a co-innovation project, will improve the quality of life of wheelchair users by preventing or correcting negative consequences of their sitting behaviour. Many wheelchairdependent persons spend their whole day in a sedentary posture. Pressure sores may develop that are difficult to cure. The smart wheelchair employs smart sensors to measure pressure distributions, temperature and sitting posture. The data is conveyed to a platform application that analyses them.
