In collaboration with Swiss Post in Switzerland, Matternet plans to implement a network of delivery drones that can transport blood samples and laboratory results between hospitals and laboratories. Hospital staff can indicate where the package is to be sent using an app. The drones then fly entirely autonomously, and are automatically fitted with a charged battery as soon as they land at a base station. Matternet hopes to have set up a wide delivery network in Switzerland by 2018.
