In recent years, a number of initiatives have been launched that send drones to supply medical relief to remote or difficult-to-reach areas. Zipline is one such effort in the United States that can fly packets containing blood plasma or platelets to a delivery destination. When doctors text their orders to Zipline, the drone can arrive within 30 minutes. In a recent groundbreaking experiment in cooperation with the University of Maryland, it has proved possible to ship a kidney to a transplantation hospital in a safe and timely fashion.
