The Dutch Untire app helps people who struggle with fatigue while they have cancer or aft er recovering from it. In the Netherlands, around 350,000 (ex) cancer patients suffer long-term fatigue and this number amounts to tens of millions globally. The app has a positive effect on its users: patients gain control of their own lives and get a nudge in the right direction aft er a period of illness and treatment. The programme offers practical input based on scientific insights, shows how fatigue emerges and provides tips to prevent fatigue. The software has a user-friendly design and is available in different languages. The value of Untire has been widely recognised: The British research organisation ORCHA assessed 190 different apps based on over 350 criteria and Untire was named one of the five best digital solutions for people with cancer. Researchers at the UMCG confirm the positive effect of Untire as well: they hope that Untire is recognised as a ‘digital antibiotic’ and covered by health insurance as digital care.
