Research on mice has found that gold nanoparticles coated with Il-4, an anti-inflammatory substance, were much more effective in achieving muscle recovery than Il-4 alone. The nanoparticles enabled the highly targeted delivery of the Il-4 to the site of the inflammation. The discovery may lead to new therapies for muscle inflammations, ranging from sports injuries to chronic diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
