What else is at play?

Researchers in the United States have used 3D printing to develop an ingestible smart pill that nestles into the stomach lining, where it actively releases drugs little by little for up to a month. That enables a constant dosage to be dispensed over a period of time. Sensors in the smart pill also measure respiration, heart rate and temperature, transmitting the data to an external receiver via a Bluetooth connection.
