Researchers in Boston have developed software for the HoloLens from Microsoft which enables holograms of myocardial scars to be projected directly onto the heart in real time during surgery. Surgeons no longer have to switch their attention between the patient and the computer screen during an operation. Such switching is not only awkward; controlling the screen also compromises sterility. CT, MRI or other images of the patient’s heart are now projected handsfree onto reality via the HoloLens.
