CorNeat Vision, an Israeli company, developed an artificial cornea implant that allows blind and visually impaired people to read and recognise family members. The implant is called CorNeat KPro and consists of biocompatible material that resembles the human extracellular matrix. The material blends well with surrounding tissue and offers the structure to support fibro loads. The first patient, a 78-year-old male, received an artificial cornea implant in 2021 and successfully so: previous donor transplants had failed but he has now regained his vision.
