Abbott CRT-D

What else is at play?

The Abbott CRT-D is an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) with three wires. The third wire allows the heart to contract more synchronously and more powerfully. This makes the Abbott CRT-D suitable for treating heart failure. The Abbott CRT-D is not the first device with three wires but this ICD does have another unique feature. The device can be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, allowing the patient to view the ICD data at any time. This data can be submitted to the hospital via an app, which means the patient does not have to be home to be monitored by a medical specialist. This innovative technique has proven its value, especially in the past years: the remote reading of data helps avoid live consultations as much as possible, thereby preventing the spread of COVID-19.
